Raguin just the ticket for Dragons
One-time traffic warden Sebastien Raguin brought the Wakefield bandwagon to a grinding halt as the Catalans Dragons consolidated third place in the engage Super League thanks to a 30-14 win at Belle Vue.
Former Toulouse second-rower Raguin scored one try and created three others as the Dragons overturned a 14-10 half-time deficit to pull off their sixth away win of the season and their first in four attempts at Belle Vue.
"You would have thought half my team had been playing (in the defeat to England) on Friday night and not half the Catalans team," bemoaned Wakefield coach John Kear after his side failed to score in the second half.
Catalans coach Mick Potter included eight French internationals in his side and they looked to be still in shock from their 10-try mauling by England when conceding two tries in the first 12 minutes to Wildcats wingmen Sean Gleeson and Damien Blanch.
A breakaway try from Casey McGuire kept the Dragons in contention and Raguin produced the first of two pin-point kicks for winger Younes Khattabi to touch down.
The visitors then stepped up a gear after the break, with the outstanding Raguin scoring one try and creating a second for Khattabi before McGuire wrapped up the Catalans' victory with his second try.
"We didn't start very well and we were under the pump quite a lot in the first half," said Potter. "To be only four points behind at half-time was a surprising thing for us. It could have been a lot more.
"But we came up with a couple of simple plays to keep us in the game and the guys gained some energy in the second half when we got more possession."
A 13th win of the season gives Potter's men a six-point cushion over fourth-placed Wigan and, more importantly, they remain only three points behind table-topping Leeds, who face a tricky visit to the Gilbert Brutus Stadium later this month.
