New signings Michael Coady and Jay Pitts will make their first appearances for Leeds in the Carnegie Nines at Headingley on Wednesday.

Simon Worrall will captain a Rhinos side that also includes Super League squad men Ashley Gibson and Kallum Watkins.

Huddersfield are the defending champions but, with Nathan Brown's men preparing for Saturday's Challenge Cup final, head of youth performance Damian McGrath will take charge of a side that includes many of the reserves who pushed St Helens all the way last Friday.

"We are going there as defending champions and that's not something we plan to give up easily," said McGrath.

Hull, who were runners-up with a reserve side a year ago, are set to field a strong team featuring skipper Lee Radford, Craig Hall, Chris Thorman and Richard Whiting.

"We'll have a real crack at it," said Hull coach Richard Agar. "We have enough boys who are up for having a game."

The tournament gets under way at 4.30pm when organisers Leeds Met University take on Jamaica, who include four players from the island's domestic competition flown in first class by sponsors Virgin Atlantic.

Other Super League teams taking part are Hull KR, Wakefield and Warrington, alongside the Army, Royal Navy, Cumbria and Blackpool, who qualified after winning the Northern Rail Nines.

The evening's entertainment also includes a fastest-man competition.
