Royal Cup bid a going concern
Michael Jarvis will assess conditions before giving his exciting recruit Royal And Regal the go-ahead in the Emirates Airline Yorkshire Cup.
Formerly trained by Andre Fabre, the progressive colt made a bright start to the present campaign when winning the John Porter at Newbury last month. Although connections are keen to get Royal And Regal out again after that positive beginning, the prospect of very fast ground could scupper the plan.
"His owner Peter Savill and I are planning to see the first couple of races and see how the ground is riding. But the horse is very fit and we're hoping we can run him," said Jarvis.
"He did very well to win last time and that was obviously on softish ground but it was over a mile and a half, which would have been a bit short for him.
"His former trainer thought the horse was versatile and that he could handle faster ground, but just how fast we wouldn't know until he runs on it."
