Mission accomplished in Cup
Paul Cole has Royal Ascot ambitions for Strategic Mission after the 16-1 chance plundered the £45,000 totescoop6 London Gold Cup at Newbury.
Richard Quinn's mount raced three times as a juvenile and kicked off his three-year-old campaign when pushed out in the style of a horse on the upgrade to deny Midships by a length. Well-backed 6-4 favourite Colony finished a never-nearer third.
Cole said: "He has always been a nice horse and is improving all the time. He will go to Ascot for the King George V Stakes over a mile and a half and I think he wants a trip. He has a good turn of foot and has everything you need."
