McDonogh sweet on Moiqen chance
Declan McDonogh believes Moiqen holds leading claims in Sunday's Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes at Leopardstown.
The race has an illustrious roll of honour that includes Sinndar, Galileo, High Chaparral and Dylan Thomas and has proved a fantastic pointer to Epsom. And while Moiqen is currently an unconsidered 50-1 shot despite a victory in the Ballysax Stakes, McDonogh believes that could all change.
"He's done nothing wrong, he's pleased us at home and he's pleased us on the track. I think he has a favourite's chance," said the jockey.
"His form is holding up really well with Hebridean going on to win and we couldn't be happier with him.
"It's amazing that his price for Epsom hasn't budged after he finished second to Famous Name - who I think is a really good horse - and winning the Ballysax but the horse doesn't know what price he is.
"Fingers crossed everything will work out on Sunday but we are very pleased with him and he can only improve. His breeding suggests he wants a trip and when he goes a mile and a half you will see the real thing.
"The ground will be quicker but they do a good job there and I expect it to be real good, summer ground."
Aidan O'Brien will be looking to improve on his incredible record in the race with Washington Irving, Hebridean and Hindu Kush, while Dermot Weld has Casual Conquest and Matters At Hand.
