It's another for King
It's A Date built on his Newmarket debut last backend to spring a 16-1 surprise for Alan King in division one of the Insead Mba 1970 Maiden Stakes at Newbury.
Richard Hughes set sail for home aboard 7-2 favourite Special Reserve passing the two-furlong marker, but was worn down close to the wire by Fergus Sweeney, who got King's son of Kyllachy up by a short head.
King's assistant Noel Williams said: "We thought he would run well as it turned out to be a good maiden at Newmarket and he was doing his best work late on. It took a while for the penny to drop again this time and he will get a mile and a half if need be."
