Curtain camp launch appeal
The owners of Curtain Call have lodged an appeal to the Turf Club against the decision of the Curragh stewards not to promote their horse to fourth place in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby.
The Luca Cumani-trained colt, along with Tartan Bearer, was badly hampered when Alessandro Volta swerved violently left about a furlong from the finish of Sunday's Classic.
The stewards promoted the unlucky Tartan Bearer to third spot and dropped Alessandro Volta down to fourth, but Curtain Call was kept in fifth. The panel were not sure he would have finished in front of Alessandro Volta had he not been hampered - he finished just over two and a half lengths behind.
"Yes, we lodged an appeal," said Patrick Cooper, spokesman for Curtain Call's syndicate of owners. "It's very early days, so we'll see what happens. We'll know the date of the hearing in due course."
Turf Club press officer Cliff Noone added: "They have put their appeal in and the next step is to try to get a date which suits everybody."
