Connections of New Approach are sitting tight over plans for the Vodafone Derby winner after a late setback ruled him out of the Irish equivalent.

The colt was withdrawn just hours before Sunday's Classic at the Curragh by trainer Jim Bolger, and extensive tests have revealed muscle soreness on the chestnut's near-hind leg.

The colt was taken out of Saturday's Coral-Eclipse and has been dropped from the betting on the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes by several bookmakers, with John Ferguson, bloodstock advisor to Sheikh Mohammed, saying: "We'll just have to wait and see."

Following X-rays taken on Monday, Bolger reported that the prognosis for a return to the racetrack was good.

He told the Racing Post: "Veterinary examination has revealed soreness on the solar surface of New Approach's left hind limb. X-rays of the limb revealed no abnormality and pelvic ultrasonography revealed no abnormality.

"However, there is soreness in the gluteal muscle area and he will be box-rested until he is fully sound, when following further ultrasonography he will begin walking exercise."
