Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins described his side's season as "terrific" after a last-day draw against Colchester.

Adkins saw his side hit back from 3-1 down to clinch a point in the battle between two relegated sides at Glanford Park, thanks to two second-half Paul Hayes' goals.

Adkins said: "This has been a terrific season for us and we have given it our best shot.

"My players have shown commitment right the way through the campaign and they did it again when we were trailing 3-1 to Colchester."

Scunthorpe have lost only one of their last five matches, but rediscovered some of their best form too late in the season to survive in the Championship.
