Coleman looking to strengthen

Coventry manager Chris Coleman is keen to bolster his squad with as many as half a dozen players this summer ahead of next season.

Coleman revealed he had hoped to start putting some plans in place this week, but they had to be shelved after Southampton's surprise draw at West Brom meant the Sky Blues' Championship survival was not assured.

"We need five or six players if we are serious," said Coleman. "We want competition in the squad and players to be cutting each other's throats for places, because that is how you progress. We have got some good players at the minute but we haven't got enough good players in the squad to make a difference."

The Welshman added: "We had hoped to start moving on a few people by now as we thought we would be safe. We couldn't really get them in before because some of the players we want need to know whether we are going to be in the Championship.

"So we have had to wait another week before we can go and get people but at least we have thrown our hat into the ring."
