Davey upbeat despite defeat

Barnsley manager Simon Davey insisted it had been a good season for his club after their last-day defeat at Cardiff.

The Tykes assured their safety with last week's 3-0 win over Charlton, but went down by the same scoreline at Cardiff and ended up finishing in 18th place.

Davey said: "It has been a long, hard season for us all, but we can look at victories over Liverpool and Chelsea, as well as being very competitive in the league.

"The Championship is a fantastic division to be in and that is why we have worked so hard to stay there."
